Frequently Asked Questions

How Can the Transplant Games of America help donor families?

This is an opportunity for donor families to meet other donor families and transplant recipients. It offers the opportunity to share their stories among those who understand. There are workshops for grief support and remembrance ceremonies to honor their loved ones. Many donor families are moved by the experience and return year after year. The Games celebrate the legacy of both living and deceased donors.

Who can be an athlete at the Games?

Any organ, tissue or cornea transplant recipient age 2 - 80+ who is a minimum of nine months post transplant may attend. Bone marrow recipients & living donors may also participate.

Do I have to be athletic to attend?

No! Recipients of all ages and athletic skills are encouraged to participate. You can select your sport depending on your fitness level and ability. This is about celebrating life and honoring your donor. (Please note: a medical waiver must be signed by your doctor to participate.)

How much will it cost?

In addition to a $50 - $250 team contribution, the estimated cost of attending is approximately $1000- $1500 per person (plane & hotel costs) so fundraising and sponsorship is highly encouraged. The team works together to fundraise enough to provide partial scholarships to athlete recipients & donor families so they can attend without financial hardship.
